I discovered this musician by accident and I’ve been in love with this record since. This is Raphael Saadiq’s 3rd studio album and it’s got a real retro/60s soul sound to it despite the fact it was released in 2008! In order to achieve that retro sound, Saadiq experimented with older recording techniques, Motown sound and Philidelphia soul styles. An incredible talent and supported by some of the greats, he’s collaborated with the likes of Joss Stone, Stevie Wonder, and Jay Z on this album. If you can get hold of a vinyl record of this it’ll be worth £300-400 depending on the condition.
It has got a bit of everything on there – if you want to dance, if you’re having a romantic evening or if you just want a soul ballad to nail in the privacy of your shower then this could be your new favourite record.
My favourite tracks on this are Big Easy, Calling, and Just One Kiss.
