Mazzy Star is an Alternative Rock band from California formed in the late 80s. This album was their 2nd studio album released in the latter part of 1993. It took one year from its release for the band’s first and only single “Fade Into You” and first track of the album to get the recognition and exposure it deserved and eventually climbed up the Billboard Hot 100 Chart to No. 44. A year after that, in 1995, the album was officially certified platinum having shifted over 1 million copies.
This is a really moody album. 90s dream pop. Great for the wee hours after some brandy.. If you’re not sure whether you’ve ever been in love before then let me recommend you to use this as your measuring stick – Mazzy Star performing Fade Into You on Jools Holland in 1994…

The lead singer is Hope Sandoval. As well as vocals, she’s an incredibly talented and versatile musician playing instruments such as acoustic guitar, harmonica, glockenspiel, Hammond organ, xylophone and various percussions. She’s known to be painfully shy. Rarely interracting with the audience and prefers to perform in near-darkness with only a dim backlight. I think you can really hear her reservations in this record which I find endearing.
My favourite tracks from this album are Fade Into You, Five String Serenade, and Into Dust. I’ve added these to the playlist if you’re that way inclined.
